Our current exhibit features works by Dorothy Rissman and Tim Forcade. The show is titled "Confluence". Rissman continues her exploration of various artistic media and has settled on urban trash and discards for this exhibit. She presents a variety of artfully constructed works utilizing blue tarps, Dick's Deluxe burger wrappers, found bits of plastic, and Seattle street marking tape. The artistry and sophistication of her work elevate the humble materials we routinely view as throwaways. She imbues these products with dignity and purpose, but we are clearly on notice to be more careful in our treatment of the Earth.
Tim Forcade is a photographer whose work features exquisite snippets of our natural world. He has refined the photographic process and is now able to represent the artistic sensibility formed during his formal training as an artist and painter. His pieces reveal a delicate and intimate glimpse of the world we are in danger of destroying through our careless consumerism. His photos of waves, leaves, grasses, and sand stand in stark contrast to the world of discarded trash represented in Rissman’s pieces. One of Forcade's most visually arresting pieces is the photo of a burning sofa in a grassy field. It demands that we consider the interaction between the natural world and our imprint on it, but presents the message in a thoughtful and compelling feast of color and composition.
