| bio statement |
Cathy Sarkowsky received her Bachelor of Arts from Pomona College in Claremont, California in 1976 and her Master of Arts at Antioch University in Seattle and the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. She continued her studies at the Santa Reparta Graphic Arts Centre in Florence, Italy and at the Aurorbora Master Monotype Workshop in San Francisco, California.
During the period from 1993 to 2000 her work has been presented in several solo and group exhibitions. Most notable among the solo shows are, "Paintings", The Corner House, Seattle, WA (1993), "Monotypes", Linda Cannon Gallery (1995), "The Round of Existence", Linda Cannon Gallery (1997), and City of Federal Way Gallery Program, Dumas Bay Centre, "Cathy Sarkowsky", Federal Way, Washington (1999).
Cathy's latest work "explores the fragility and vulnerability lurking amidst the joyful play of young children. Circles, long present in the artist's work, serve here to create chaos, surrounding, threatening and colliding with images of children engaged in physical activity.
The floating, balloon-like nature of the colored balls, by turns playful and ominous, are suggestive of cells and genetic matter, of conscious and unconscious thought 'bubbles', of memory and of dreams - all of which informs the complex nature of 'growing up'."

1999 - City of Federal Way Arts Commission, Gallery Program, Dumas Bay Centre, "Cathy Sarkowsky", Federal Way, WA
